Things to do in Tucson With Kids & Bonus Vegan Restaurant List

Have you thought of visiting Tucson with kids? There are a lot of great attractions and accommodations to make the perfect family weekend getaway to free yourself with your family in the Southwest. With eco-friendly things like hiking, the Biosphere 2, cave, mission tours, and even a miniatures museum, there is more than enough indoor and outdoors for kids to do. We picked 8 of our favorite vegan-friendly adventures (so no zoos or aquariums or pony rides) to share with an added bonus list of vegan and plenty of vegan-friendly restaurants offering actual vegan options in Tucson. 1. Biosphere 2 which was named Time Life Books “One of the 50 must-see wonders of the world” is Earth's largest living research center for the environment. An indoor trail system allows visitors to explore tropical rainforest, savanna, coastal fog desert and million-gallon ocean biospheres in this extraordinary exibit.

2. Colossal Cave Mountain Park hidden in the southern Arizona Mountains offers guided cave tours, hiking and biking trails, camping, special events, food & spirits and more. Like a scene out of the wild west, this park features beautiful Sonoran Desert vistas, mountain peaks, and subterranean caves.





3. The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures is a dream come true for any dollhouse fan. There are over 300 miniature houses and room boxes in this 10,000 square-feet exhibit. The Museum’s rotating exhibits and permanent collection of antique dollhouses dating to 1742 transport visitors through time. The Chicago Tribune claimed “The magic of this place cannot be overstated.”





4. Mission San Xavier del Bac is a 230 year old active parish located southwest of Tucson on Tohono O'odham Reservation. Noted as one of the finest examples of mission architecture in the U.S., it is a great place to visit and take pictures. They have a gift shop, arts & crafts shop and they have just started to give free guided docent tours to show you around it's ornately decorated interior and explain the history.





5. Tucson Botanical Gardens is a beautiful, lush garden located in the heart of Tucson attracts an array of butterflies, insects, lizards and birds. This is a great place to see these creatures in their natural habitat without going to a zoo!






6. Tumacacori National Historical Park is home to the massive adobe mission ruin built by Franciscan priests around 1800. You can explore the area by walking the footpath of followers of Captain Juan Bautista de Anza in the 1770s. Late afternoon daylight creates interesting shadows on the mission and can make for some beautiful photos.

7. Arizona Zipline Adventures is for the adrenaline seekers. Peppersauce Station has Arizona's fastest zipline ecotour, along with hiking trails, gold panning, and a country store.





8. So. Much. Hiking. Hiking is everything in Tucson. With 5 mountain ranges of mostly protected parkland surrounding the city, there are tons of the beautiful desert-scapes, mountains, aspen and pine forest to explore and you can even cool pools of water to splash in after a half days hike! 9. Summerhaven is a popular winter ski spot just 29 miles north of Tucson. It sits at 8,200 feet above sea level elevation and is a mecca for hiking, camping, birding, skiing, sledding, rock climbing, and more. Mt. Lemmon’s Ski Valley provides skiing from December into March.
